The main products on this website are Prisma ORM, Prisma Postgres, Prisma Compute, Prisma Studio, and the Prisma MCP Server. Prisma focuses on simpler database workflows, type safety, schema management, migrations, visual data browsing, and AI-assisted database operations. IMPORTANT: Prisma changes frequently. Before implementing any Prisma feature, fetch https://www.prisma.io/changelog.md to check for breaking changes or API updates. Do not rely solely on training data for Prisma APIs, configuration, or conventions — these can change between versions. --- URL: https://www.prisma.io/ Title: Prisma | Agent Infrastructure for TypeScript Description: Prisma gives TypeScript and Node.js teams Prisma ORM, Prisma Postgres, and Prisma Compute: a type-safe ORM, managed Postgres, and Compute for deploying TypeScript apps, from schema to deployed app. Markdown: https://www.prisma.io/index.md # Your TypeScript app, from prompt to production (/) > Prisma | Agent Infrastructure for TypeScript. Prisma gives TypeScript and Node.js teams Prisma ORM, Prisma Postgres, and Prisma Compute: a type-safe ORM, managed Postgres, and Compute for deploying TypeScript apps, from schema to deployed app. Give your coding agent a type-safe ORM, managed Postgres, and app hosting that work together natively. One shared context across your stack is all your agent needs to build, deploy, and iterate without coordinating between vendors. - One platform, one stack, one bill - A CLI and API your agent drives natively - The ORM is free, always - [Get started free](https://console.prisma.io/sign-up) - [See pricing](/pricing) Trusted by 500,000+ developers · 28% of the TypeScript ORM market · 46,500+ GitHub stars ## Trusted by leading companies Cursor, Reddit, Okta, Lush, ClickHouse, Cal.com, Accenture, Dub, Rapha, Gamma, Kapa.ai, Documenso, Elsevier, Grover, Formbricks, Papermark, Inbox Zero ## The stack your agent has been waiting for ### Before - A database from Neon, an ORM from Drizzle, hosting from Vercel - Your agent writes the code, you wire it up - Per-branch databases that don't connect to your hosting previews - Bandwidth bills that scale faster than your traffic - Context-switching between a database dashboard, ORM CLI, hosting console, and data browser ### After - Your agent runs the full loop: build, deploy, debug, fix, redeploy - One platform: hosting, database, and ORM built to work together natively - Per-branch databases wired to your hosting previews automatically - App and database co-located on the same host, at latency no two-vendor setup can match - Spend limits on every paid tier, so your bill stops where you tell it to ## Ship a production TypeScript app in three steps ### 1. Define Write your data model once in `contract.prisma`, or have your agent write it for you. It's the shared contract your ORM, migrations, and data layer are all built around. ### 2. Deploy Add Prisma Postgres and Compute when you're ready to ship. Your app and database deploy together on the same host, co-located by default. ### 3. Iterate Your agent reads logs, fixes what broke, and redeploys through one CLI. The loop runs for as long as you need it to. - [Get started free](https://console.prisma.io/sign-up) ## The TypeScript stack, integrated by design ORM, database, and hosting designed to work together, so your agent can build, deploy, and iterate without coordinating between vendors. ### Prisma ORM *Type-safe data layer* A declarative, type-safe schema rebuilt in native TypeScript, the shared contract your whole stack and your agent are built around. - Schema-as-LLM-context: small, dense, machine-readable - Errors structured for agent consumption, not just human-readable - Rebuilt in native TypeScript for the fastest type-checking at scale - Free, open-source, the foundation 500K+ developers already trust - [Learn more about Prisma ORM](/orm) `contract.prisma` — The shared contract across your stack ### Prisma Postgres *Managed database* Managed Postgres already wired to your schema and co-located with your app hosting, on infrastructure built for single-digit ms boot times. - Unikernel microVMs on bare metal, single-digit ms boot - Operation-based pricing with spend limits, no bill shock - Free per-branch databases, integrated with hosting previews - Works with any ORM if you're not using Prisma's - Query Insights built in: spot slow queries and get an agent-ready prompt to fix them - [Learn more about Prisma Postgres](/postgres) `prisma.config.ts` — One config, both products ### Prisma Compute *App hosting* TypeScript app hosting that runs on the same host as your database, so your agent can deploy, debug, and redeploy end-to-end. - Bun runtime on bare metal - Co-located with Prisma Postgres, single-digit ms query latency - Long-running workloads: WebSockets, cron, background jobs (coming soon) - Versioned deployments with preview URLs, deploy by git push or CLI - [Learn more about Prisma Compute](/compute) ### Working across the stack **Prisma Studio** — to inspect your data Visual data browser and editor built into the Console. See what your agent did to your database, collaborate with teammates without SQL, embeddable in your own apps. - [Learn more about Prisma Studio](/postgres) **CLI + Management API** — to stay in the loop The agent interface for the full platform. Structured output and `--json` modes everywhere, with full parity between CLI and API so anything your agent can run, it can also call programmatically. - [Learn more about the CLI and Management API](/docs) ## What changes when your stack is built to work together - **Your agent handles the full loop** — Build, deploy, debug, redeploy. No vendor coordination. - **One platform, not five glued together** — Get your app live without wiring together a database, a host, and an ORM from separate vendors. - **Deploy your app, the database is already there** — App and Postgres co-located on the same host. ## Pricing that scales with you Start free with the ORM, which will always be free. Prisma Postgres has a free tier with a hard cap, so you can build without a credit card. When you outgrow it, you're on operation-based pricing with spend limits, and data transfer is always included. - [See pricing](/pricing) - **Free Postgres tier** with a hard cap, no credit card required - **Spend limits on every paid tier**, so your bill never surprises you - **Unlimited data transfer included**, no bandwidth bill-shock - **Prisma ORM is free, always** - **Per-branch databases included**, no surcharge - **SOC2, HIPAA, ISO 27001, and GDPR** at the Business tier ### Side project (~5K MAU) Typical stack (Neon + Vercel): $19-39 per month - Separate database + hosting bills - Data transfer billed per GB - Credit card required up front Prisma: $0 per month - No credit card required - Data transfer included - Hard free-tier cap, no surprises ### Growing SaaS (~50K MAU) Typical stack (Neon + Vercel): $385-450 per month - Separate database + hosting bills - Data transfer billed per GB - Spend limits not standard Prisma: $70-90 per month - One bill, one platform - Data transfer included - Spend limits on by default ### At scale (~500K MAU) Typical stack (Neon + Vercel): $2,800-3,400 per month - Committed-use contracts across vendors - Data transfer billed per GB - Spend limits not standard Prisma: $640-780 per month - One bill, one platform - Data transfer included - Spend limits on by default ## Real teams, real builds - "Prisma makes database management incredibly easy. Prisma Compute works with any TypeScript app. The ORM is free and works with any database. Use whichever pieces solve your problem, and add the rest when you're ready. ### What if I'm not using an AI coding agent? Everything works without one. The CLI and Management API are built so agents can drive them, but they're also just well-designed developer tools. Use Prisma the way you've always used Prisma. ### Is my schema locked in? No. `contract.prisma` is yours, your data sits in standard Postgres, and you can migrate away whenever you want. Migration paths from Prisma to other tools are documented. ### How do I know what an operation will cost me? Every paid tier includes spend limits, so your bill stops at the cap you set. The pricing calculator on the pricing page gives you a usage estimate, and full operation definitions are in the docs. ### Should I run production on Prisma Compute? Compute is generally available: pricing is live, and every paid plan includes spend limits. The ORM and Prisma Postgres are production-ready and used by teams from solo developers to companies like Lush, Rapha, and Elsevier. ### What about Prisma 7 / Prisma ORM users today? Prisma 7 isn't going anywhere and remains fully supported. Prisma 8, now the current release, is a separate, opinionated product built for agentic workflows, not a forced upgrade. When you are ready to move, the Prisma 8 docs include an upgrade guide from Prisma 7. ## Ready to let your agent run the full loop? The TypeScript stack 500K+ developers trust. Start with the free ORM, and add the rest of the platform when you need it. - Built for how your agent ships now - Postgres and hosting when you need them - Type-safe ORM, free and always will be - [Get started free](https://console.prisma.io/sign-up) - [See pricing](/pricing) --- URL: https://www.prisma.io/orm Title: Prisma ORM | Type-Safe ORM for TypeScript and Node.js Description: Prisma ORM is a type-safe ORM for TypeScript and Node.js. Model your data, run migrations, and query your database, with access your agent can't get wrong. Markdown: https://www.prisma.io/orm.md # One schema. Every query type-safe. (/orm) > Prisma ORM | Type-Safe ORM for TypeScript and Node.js. For the complete Prisma website index, see [llms.txt](https://www.prisma.io/llms.txt). A Markdown version of any listed page is available at its `.md` URL — this one is `/orm.md`. Prisma ORM is a type-safe ORM for TypeScript and Node.js. Model your data, run migrations, and query your database, with access your agent can't get wrong. Define your data model once, and Prisma ORM generates a typed client where every query, migration and type is checked against it. - [View on GitHub](https://github.com/prisma/orm) - [Read the docs](/docs) Works with Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB and more. - Autocomplete over your own models, and mistakes caught before they ship - Migrations that refuse to run when they would destroy data - Free, open source, trusted by 500K+ developers ### Prisma ORM at a glance - **Schema** — One file your whole stack reads: models, field types and relations declared in one place. - **Client** — A typed client generated from that schema, so a wrong field name fails in your editor, not in production. - **Migrations** — Prisma refuses a migration that would destroy data, and tells you what it would have dropped. - **Any database** — The same schema and the same generated client over Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB and more. ## Without a typed schema, your data layer is guesswork When your data model lives across loosely-typed files and hand-written SQL, mismatches surface at runtime instead of in your editor, and nothing can check a change against the schema before it runs. That is true when you write the change, and it is far more dangerous when an agent does. Prisma ORM exists to change that. - One schema your whole stack reads - Every query checked before it ships - Migrations that refuse to destroy data - The same client over any database ## A schema your whole stack reads Your data model is written once and read everywhere: by you, by your agent, and by every other Prisma product. - **Declarative schema** — Define your data model in one dense, machine-readable file. Easy for you to scan, easy for your agent to parse and edit reliably. - **Type-safe client** — A fully typed query client generated from your schema. Autocomplete everywhere, and mistakes caught before they ship instead of in production. - **Built for agents, not just humans** — Errors carry stable codes, structured details, and remediation hints. Your agent reads what went wrong and fixes it, through a clean CLI and Management API. ## Migrations your agent can run without breaking production Migrations are where agentic development gets dangerous — it's the moment an agent can alter or delete data irrecoverably. Prisma makes them safe to delegate. Change your models and Prisma generates the migration in TypeScript you can read and edit, not SQL you have to decipher. Every step is verified before and after it runs, and the result must match your schema to be applied. Because life is rarely a straight line, migrations are tracked as a graph, like git: roll back, branch, and named refs point at multiple environments. Your agent drives the whole lifecycle through a predictable CLI — plan, apply, inspect — without ever hand-writing SQL, and never "drop the database and start over." ## Fast feedback makes your agent faster, and more reliable Prisma ORM is built to give your agent feedback at every step so it can iterate to success without human intervention. The more feedback it gets from its environment, and the sooner it gets it, the fewer attempts it takes to reach correct, verified code. - **Expert from the first prompt** — Setting up a project installs the Prisma skills for your coding agent, so it knows the right patterns before it writes a line. - **The type system catches mistakes instantly** — Every query is checked against your schema before it ships. Wrong column, wrong type, missing relation — your agent finds out instantly, not in production. - **Errors built to be read by agents** — When something fails at runtime, the error carries a stable code, structured details, and remediation hints. Your agent reads what went wrong and fixes it. - **Guardrails before anything touches your data** — Queries and migrations are verified against your schema before execution. A drifted schema or an invalid plan is rejected up front, with an error that says why. ## Built to work with the rest of Prisma The schema you write for the ORM is the same schema your database and hosting read. Adopt the ORM and you've already laid the foundation for the rest of the stack, with no rework when you're ready to expand. **Best together. Swappable when needed.** ## Trusted by 500K+ TypeScript developers - "Prisma makes database management incredibly easy. Prisma Postgres is a production-ready serverless PostgreSQL database with instant setup, built-in connection pooling, automated backups, and usage-based pricing, already wired to your stack. Prisma Postgres is a production-ready managed database that works with any TypeScript stack. - [Get started free](https://console.prisma.io/sign-up) - [See pricing](/pricing) Free tier with a hard cap. No credit card. - Branch your database alongside your app, free, per PR - Autoscaling that handles spikes without capacity planning - Predictable pricing with spend limits, no surprise bills ### Prisma Postgres at a glance - **Database** — A production Postgres in seconds, with a per-PR branch beside it that carries its own isolated data. - **Studio** — Browse and edit real rows in the browser. No psql, no local client to set up first. - **Query Insights** — See which queries are slow and why, without standing up your own tracing stack. ## A database that ships with the rest of your stack When your database and your hosting come from separate vendors, the things that should be automatic — preview environments with real data, end-to-end test setups, single-config deploys — turn into work you have to do. - Branch with your app, per PR - Predictable pricing with spend limits - Autoscaling without capacity planning - Standard Postgres, no lock-in ## Branches, deploys, and config that come with the app Prisma Postgres runs on the same platform as Compute, so the features below come from one platform doing what two vendors can't. - **Branch with your app** — When Compute branches a deploy, Prisma Postgres branches with it — every preview gets a dedicated, fully-isolated database. - **One config for both halves** — The same prisma.config.ts declares your app and your database. No two-vendor wiring, no dashboards to keep in sync. - **Predictable pricing** — Operation-based pricing with spend limits you set yourself. A quiet month costs almost nothing, a busy one never surprises you. - **Production-ready from day one** — Daily backups, encryption at rest and in transit, full tenant isolation, and SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001 and GDPR at the Business tier. - **Standard Postgres, no lock-in** — Standard SQL and wire protocol, extensions like pgvector, and migration in or out with pg_dump. ## Built to work with the rest of Prisma Prisma Postgres runs on the same platform as Compute, and the schema you define in Prisma ORM drives your migrations and your typed client. The more of the stack you use, the less there is to wire together. **Best together. Use it on its own with any ORM and any host, or pair it with Compute and your app and database become one deploy, one config, one branched preview environment per PR. - Free branching that travels with your app - Predictable pricing with spend limits and autoscaling - Standard Postgres underneath, no lock-in - [Get started free](https://console.prisma.io/sign-up) - [See pricing](/pricing) --- URL: https://www.prisma.io/compute Title: Prisma Compute | Deploy TypeScript Apps and AI Agents on Bun Description: Prisma Compute deploys TypeScript apps, APIs, and AI agents from your repo as long-lived Bun processes next to Prisma Postgres, with long-running requests and streaming. One platform for your app and its database. Markdown: https://www.prisma.io/compute.md # One platform for your app and its database (/compute) > Prisma Compute | Deploy TypeScript Apps and AI Agents on Bun. For the complete Prisma website index, see [llms.txt](https://www.prisma.io/llms.txt). A Markdown version of any listed page is available at its `.md` URL — this one is `/compute.md`. Prisma Compute deploys TypeScript apps, APIs, and AI agents from your repo as long-lived Bun processes next to Prisma Postgres, with long-running requests and streaming. One platform for your app and its database. Prisma Compute is the easiest way to host TypeScript apps, with Postgres and the rest of your infrastructure built in. - [Get started free](https://console.prisma.io/sign-up) - [Read the docs](/docs) Deploy from GitHub or the CLI. Free tier, no credit card. - Every PR gets a dedicated app and database, branched together - Microsecond app-to-database latency, no cross-vendor network hop - Long-running, streaming workloads built for hosting agents, not just apps ### Prisma Compute at a glance - **Connect** — Point Compute at a GitHub repo, or deploy straight from your machine with one command. - **Deploy** — One deploy ships the app and its branched database together, migrations included. - **Live** — Production and a per-PR preview, each with its own app and its own isolated database. - **Apps** — Start from an app — Next.js, Hono, an API, an agent — and deploy it as it is. ## One platform can ship features two never could When your hosting provider and your database provider are separate companies, the things that depend on them being aware of each other (branching, preview environments, low-latency queries, end-to-end test data) don't exist. You wire them together yourself, or you do without. Prisma Compute exists to change that. - Branch your stack per PR - Skip the cross-vendor network hop - Host streaming agents natively - One config for app and database ## What one platform unlocks Compute and Prisma Postgres run as a single platform. The features below are only possible because of that. - **Built for hosting AI agents** — Agents need long-lived processes, streaming responses and durable memory. Compute supports all three, on the same platform that runs your data. - **Branch your stack per PR** — Every preview environment gets a dedicated database, branched from production and tied to that deploy. No shared test DB that passes tests production fails. - **Microsecond queries, no code changes** — ORMs make many small queries, and on most stacks each one pays a network round trip between two vendors. Compute runs on the same machine as Prisma Postgres, so that round trip disappears. - **Cron and background jobs as a first-class concept** — Scheduled execution and background jobs are declared in prisma.config.ts, alongside the rest of your app. No external schedulers, no separate sidecar service. - **[S3-compatible file storage built in](/docs/compute/object-storage)** — Object Store buckets live inside your project, next to its databases, managed from the same Console and API. Any S3 client works, with per-bucket keys scoped to read or read-write. ## Built to work with the rest of Prisma Prisma Compute is where the stack comes together: your app, your database, and your data model on one platform. **Best together. Swappable when needed.** ## One platform. Both layers. Features only possible because of it. Compute is part of a TypeScript stack where hosting and the database travel as a unit. Branch them together, deploy them together, debug them together. - Built to host the agents you're building, not just the apps - Per-PR branching across app and database - Co-located queries with no cross-vendor latency - [Get started free](https://console.prisma.io/sign-up) - [Read the docs](/docs) --- URL: https://www.prisma.io/pricing Title: Prisma Pricing | Usage-Based Plans for Postgres and Compute Description: Usage-based pricing for your whole stack — Prisma Compute app hosting and Prisma Postgres databases. Pay for the work your app does, not seats or deploys. Free tier with no time limit, hard spend limits on every paid plan. Markdown: https://www.prisma.io/pricing.md # Usage-based pricing that bills you for what your app actually does (/pricing) > Prisma Pricing | Usage-Based Plans for Postgres and Compute. Usage-based pricing for your whole stack — Prisma Compute app hosting and Prisma Postgres databases. Pay for the work your app does, not seats or deploys. Free tier with no time limit, hard spend limits on every paid plan. Prisma bills you for real work, on both halves of your stack. Your app on Prisma Compute pays for the requests it serves, the memory and CPU it uses while running, and the data it sends out. Your database on Prisma Postgres counts every query as one operation, and operations are what you pay for. ## Plans | Plan | Price | Prisma Compute | Prisma Postgres | Platform | Get started | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Free | $0 / month — Free forever. Custom pricing is available for high-volume teams. - [Contact us](/contact) ## How Prisma pricing works The ceremony around shipping stays free: deploys, preview branches, idle time, and the number of people on your team never add to the bill. An idle app scales to zero and costs nothing. A request does the same work whether it comes from a person, a script, or an AI agent, so that work is all you're charged for. Every paid plan also includes a hard spend limit, on by default, so usage-based pricing stays predictable and never becomes a surprise bill. ### Every plan includes - Prisma ORM (always free) - Unlimited Prisma Postgres data transfer - Spend limits - Prisma Studio - CLI + Management API ## Estimate usage before you upgrade Estimate your usage before you upgrade, then set a spend limit so the bill can't surprise you. The calculator recommends the right plan for where you are. - Hobby — 100K · 500 MB - Startup — 1M · 8 GB - Scaleup — 20M · 40 GB ### Estimate your monthly usage - Database operations per month — 1 query = 1 operation - Storage in gigabytes - Data transfer — unlimited, included free - **Free plan** — 100,000 ops • 0.5GB storage • free forever - **Starter plan** — 1,000,000 ops included, then $0.008 per 1,000 • 10GB included, then $2/GB - **Pro plan** — 10,000,000 ops included, then $0.002 per 1,000 • 50GB included, then $1.5/GB - **Business plan** — 50,000,000 ops included, then $0.001 per 1,000 • 100GB included, then $1/GB Hard spend limit, on by default — never a surprise bill. ## See how Prisma compares at scale Prisma charges per operation: each query your app runs against your database counts as one. No seats. No egress fees. And every paid plan includes a hard spend limit so there are no surprises. An operation is a single action against your Prisma Postgres database — a create, read, update, or delete. A simple write and a complex query with multiple joins each count as one operation, and a cached read counts too. ### Is Prisma ORM really free? Yes. Prisma ORM is open source and will always be free. The paid plans cover Prisma Postgres (managed database hosting) and Prisma Compute (app hosting). ### What happens if I exceed my plan's operations? Overage rates kick in automatically at the per-million rate shown on your plan. You can set a spend limit on any paid plan to cap how much you're charged in a billing cycle. ### Are there egress fees? Not for your database — unlimited data transfer is included with Prisma Postgres on all plans. Prisma Compute includes 10 GB of outbound bandwidth per month on Free. Paid plans bill outbound bandwidth at $0.025 per GB. ### Can I change plans later? Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. ### What is Prisma Compute? Prisma Compute is TypeScript app hosting built to run alongside Prisma Postgres — co-located on the same infrastructure so your app and database are always next to each other. It's billed on usage across four meters — requests, provisioned memory, active CPU, and outbound bandwidth — and an idle app scales to zero and costs nothing. ### Is there custom pricing for high-volume teams? Yes. If your usage exceeds what the Business plan covers, get in touch and we'll work out the right plan for your team. --- URL: https://www.prisma.io/studio Title: Prisma Studio | Visual Database Browser and Editor Description: Explore, edit, and understand your data with a visual database browser for Prisma, locally or in Prisma Console.
